PhoneGap Facebook Plugin – maintenance update

with 5 comments

PluginBeginning today – the PhoneGap Facebook Plugin has a new home under Wizcorp. Ally Ogilvie of Wizcorp has been doing a great job of maintaining this plugin thus far, and his excellent stewardship of the plugin will continue on. Read his blog post on this.

Please update your bookmarks and point your git urls to the new location when adding a plugin using the CLI.

Alternatively, you could try a JavaScript only solution, read this blog post and browse the source code. This JavaScript only solution has some drawbacks however – you will lose Single Sign On, events, and ad tracking.

  1. I don’t get how there are some plugins hosted like this and some at the Cordova plugin repository. This one isn’t in the repository but there are a few other random ones.

    • Inclusion in the plugins repository is entirely up to the author. PhoneGap and Cordova are separate, and PhoneGap/Build may have its own repository in the future. Stay tuned.

  2. What about WP8 support?

    • Not sure there was demand when the plugin was first started. Be sure to file an issue in the repo so it gets noticed.

  3. I have tried several approaches, to obtain the native look and feel of a Facebook login button. But I have failed so far. Either the button won’t show, won’t work or doesn’t look like the FB button everyone else uses. Can anyone elaborate on why it’s not possible using Phonegap Build to obtain a FB-button with the ‘original’ look and feel? I’m using Android v.2.3.5 and Phonegap Build 3.4. Also I have observed, that if I browse the index.html in Chrome browser, everything is fine! It has to do with the script

    js.src = “//”;

    seems the android package cannot load/get the js.src?! What am I doing wrong?
